Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy? How does it work?

In short, therapy is a conversation between two people. Seems simple enough, right? Our conversations are a bit different than ones you might have with friends and family, however. Therapy is a place where you have a chance to open up about your problems, feel and process your emotions, gain new perspectives, and develop new ways of approaching your struggles that help you to live the kind of life you want to live. I see therapy as a collaborative process; it’s not me simply telling you what to do, nor is it you being left to figure everything out for yourself while I sit and simply nod along. We’re in this together. My role is to listen, to give you as much space as you need, and also to guide us to where we need to go and share some of my knowledge when it’s helpful.

How long is a therapy session?

A therapy session is typically 45 minutes. I am occasionally able to accommodate longer sessions (i.e. 60 minutes) at a pro-rated fee, but this must be discussed ahead of time and will depend on my schedule and availability.

How often will I attend sessions?

Most clients have sessions every week or once every other week, however some clients prefer to meet every 3 or 4 weeks. This is often flexible, and can be discussed in our phone consultation.

Can I see you in the evening? How about on the weekends?

I can accommodate early evening sessions. My last session is typically at 5 pm, 5:30 pm, or 6 pm, Monday through Thursday. Please note that these slots are typically in higher demand and so it is sometimes difficult to guarantee evening times every week. Unfortunately I do not offer weekend appointments at this time.

Can I use my health insurance?

I am private pay only, and I do not accept insurance. However, I can provide something called a “Superbill” that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits for individual therapy.
